Donald Stratton (14/7/1922 - 15/2/2020) was an American World War II veteran and memoirist who served during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was on the deck of the USS Arizona when an armor-piercing bomb set off the 1 ammunition magazine in the front of the ship. Stratton was the only person on the bow of the Arizona to survive that blast.

The battleship was hit by Japanese torpedo bombers during the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December, 1941, followed by the United States' entry into World War II the next day. A total of 2,390 American service members and civilians were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, including 1,177 crew members on board the USS Arizona, according to the National Park Service's website. And more than 900 could not be recovered and remain entombed in the ship which, due to the massive explosion, sank within 14 minutes.

The wreck was not salvaged, but remained at the bottom of the harbor and became a memorial to those who perished that day. The memorial is located immediately east of Ford Island.

Since 1982, the US Navy has allowed survivors of USS Arizona to be interred in the ship’s wreckage upon their deaths. Following a full military funeral at the Arizona memorial, the cremated remains are placed in an urn and then deposited by divers beneath one of the Arizona’s gun turrets.
