 In 1361, the forces of Danish King Valdemar Atterdag set out to conquer Gotland, in present-day Sweden, with an army of 2,500 soldiers and mercenaries.  Close to 2,000 peasants rose up, stood their ground and mounted the best defense they could. Valiant and as “Brave Heart” as that bit of the story may sound… This most definitely isn’t the storyline of a Hollywood movie.  Almost every single one of Gotland peasants ended up falling to the swords, axes, and spears of well-trained invading force. How many bloodlines were completely severed that day? Crazy to think about.  And last month, a team of archaeologists and a Brazilian 3D artist reconstructed the face of one of those doomed peasant-warriors — including the gory ax wound that killed him.  Artist and designer Cícero Morales said that when he finished his work on the man's reconstructed visage, he was shocked at the brutality of his death .
