Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona. Italy⠀ Built more than 2,000 feet above sea level into a vertical cliff on the Italian mountain Baldo before Valdadige. The Santuario Madonna della Corona (Sanctuary of the Lady of the Crown) looks as if it's almost suspended in mid-air. Originally, the secluded shelf was home to a legacy where holy people could come for silent contemplation, completely removed from the rest of the world. The actual church was built in 1530 and this place has become a chapel for anyone who wants to pay a pilgrimage and contemplate the nature of God in peace. Thanks to its relative inadequacy, the church was never completely destroyed or risked and managed to survive in the 20th century, crumbling slightly but intact. In the 1970s, an Italian architect demolished much of the aging structure and rebuilt it, taking care to retain as much of the important art as possible.
