You may have heard of the giant geoglyphs carved into the desert of Peru called the Nazca Lines, but did you know there are also geoglyphs in the USA? The Blythe Intaglios are giant figures carved into the Mojave desert in California that are only fully visible from the sky. They are over 1000 years old and depict two humans as well as two animals thought to be a mountain lion (they predate horses on the continent) and a snake. Their purpose is unknown - why would ancient civilizations create images they couldn’t see from the ground? There are also many examples of geoglyphs world wide from ancient cultures that were geographically distant from one another - the nazca lines in Peru, the atacama giant in Chile, the Blythe Intaglios in California and the Uffington White horse in England are just a few that we know of. We flew a drone over the Blythe Intaglios to give you a better view of them and we just posted a short about them on our channel!
