In 1913 a woman named Mary Phagan was raped and murdered at the National Pencil Company in Georgia where she had worked. Leo Frank knew her and managed this company. After an investigation, Leo Frank was fingered as the culprit behind the murder. He was found guilty in a court case and that was that. Turns out the trial and investigation were both flawed. Imagine that? So Frank's sentence was commuted. This resulted in public outrage thanks in large part to media sensationalism. Frank was kidnapped and lynched by a mob in 1915.
