Masha Bruskina.


Masha Bruskina was a Russian teenage female partisan. She was a 17 year old Jewish high school graduate and was the first teenage girl to be publicly hanged by the Nazis in Belorussia (Belarus), since the German invasion of Soviet Union on the 22nd of June 1941. 

Her execution and that of the two men hanged with her took place on the 26th of October 1941 in the city of Minsk. In the photos of her, you will see that she has blond hair, but her natural colour was dark. She dyed her hair when she started to work for the underground. Witnesses to her hanging, testified that Masha struggled hard and lost control of her bladder and bowels.

 After hanging for three days, she and the men were taken down and only when her body was traditionally washed before her burial by local people and members of her family, did her dark hair show up. She worked as a nurse in a military hospital and was a member of an underground cell which aided Soviet officers hospitalised there to escape and join the partisans.

 The members of this cell were informed on and quickly rounded up. Masha and two of her male comrades, Volodya Sherbateivich and Krill Trous, were sentenced to death. 

They were led through the streets with Masha wearing a large placard proclaiming that they were partisans and hanged one at a time, Masha first, by the 707 Infantries division, who meticulously filmed the proceedings.

She volunteered as a nurse at the hospital in the Minsk Polytechnic Institute, which had been set up to care for members of the Red Army wounded while defending what was then the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic against the planned genocide of the indigenous Slavic peoples by 3.8 Million Nazi and Finnish troops, a military escalation that remains the largest land invasion in history.

In addition to caring for the soldiers, she helped them escape by smuggling civilian clothing and false identity papers into the hospital. A patient told the Germans what Bruskina was doing, and she was arrested on October 14, 1941, by members of the Nazi Army's 707th Infantry Division and 2nd Schutzmannschaft Battalion and Lithuanian auxiliary troops under the command of Major Antanas Impulevičius. 

After being arrested, Bruskina wrote a letter to her mother on October 20, 1941:

I am tormented by the thought that I have caused you great worry. Don't worry. Nothing bad has happened to me. I swear to you that you will have no further unpleasantness because of me. If you can, please send me my dress, my green blouse, and white socks. I want to be dressed decently when I leave here.

The German Nazi invaders decided on a public hanging to make an example of Bruskina, along with two other members of the resistance, 16-year-old Volodia Shcherbatsevich and World War I veteran Kiril Trus. 

Before being hanged, she was paraded through the streets with a placard around her neck which read, in both German and Russian: "We are partisans and have shot at German troops", the latter which had of course never actually occurred, Masha having been a nurse.

 Members of the resistance were routinely made to wear similar signs whether or not they had actually shot at German troops as a display of power and authority by the Nazi invaders, theoretically demonstrating their total control of the occupied nation and its peoples.

She and her two comrades were hanged in public on Sunday, October 26, 1941, in front of Minsk Kristall, a yeast brewery and distillery plant on Nizhne-Lyahovskaya Street (15 Oktyabrskaya Street today). 

The German Nazi authorities would not allow the victims to be cut down and buried for three days, during which time the bodies were displayed publicly as a warning to other anti-fascists, Jews and Communists.

A witness of the execution said:

When they put her on the stool, the girl turned her face toward the fence. The executioners wanted her to stand with her face to the crowd, but she turned away and that was that. No matter how much they pushed her and tried to turn her, she remained standing with her back to the crowd. Only then did they kick away the stool from under her.

Olga Shcherbatsevich, the mother of executed 16-year old activist Volodia Shcherbatsevich, was hanged the same day along with 10 other members of the Soviet anti-fascist resistance in front of what is now the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The Bolsheviks tortured the captain, likely to get information out of the man, which he bravely refused to give. How The Sinking of The USS Indianapolis Became The Worst Shark Attack in History The tragic sinking of the USS Indianapolis The heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis was part of the U.S. Navy. It was named after the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. It was launched in 1931. Hannah Halley - for infanticide.  Hannah Halley like so many young women at the time found herself in a seemingly impossible situation.  She murdered her new born infant because she could not keep her job and nurse a baby and without the job she could not afford to support the child.   Thirty one year old Hannah worked at the Darley cotton mill in Derbyshire and gave birth to the baby on Tuesday, the 14th of August 1821 at her lodgings in Brook Street, Derby. Sara Janse Geldof - the last woman executed in Holland. The last woman executed in Holland, after being sentenced to death by a civilian court, was 33 year old Sara Janse Geldof, who was publicly strangled at Middelburg on Monday the 24th of September 1838.   Male criminals were hanged at this time but women were strangled at the stake for the sake of decency. The execution took place on a scaffold erected in front of the town hall. The Vlissingsche Courant of the 25th of September 1838 reported: "In the afternoon of September 24, 1838, Middelburg had the awesome ceremony of the execution of the sentence, passed on Sara Janse Geldhof, housewife of Pieter Johannes Huissoon, by the Court of Assise.  She was condemned to death, by strangling at the pole. The Massacre of Manila was what the media back then coined what had happened to 100,000 Filipino civilians trapped in Manila in 1945. Ignoring orders from Gen. Yamashita to evacuate the city, Rear Admiral Iwabuchi of the Japanese Navy decided to make an unnecessary last stand in Manila against the incoming American forces under Gen. MacArthur. The Japanese who were around 17,000 strong were surrounded from the north and south, and barricaded themselves in the many American colonial buildings, Spanish Churches, and within the fortress walls of Manila itself.
