Project Pigeon During World War II

Project Pigeon During World War II

There are countless interesting facts about history that many people may not be aware of, but here is one example:

During World War II, the United States military developed a secret project called "Project Pigeon" that aimed to use trained pigeons to guide missiles to their targets. The idea was to train the pigeons to peck at an image of the target on a screen, which would then move the missile in the direction of the target.

While the project never came to fruition and was ultimately abandoned, it did receive funding from the military and was taken seriously by some experts at the time. The project was led by renowned behaviorist B.F. Skinner, who believed that pigeons could be trained to perform complex tasks using operant conditioning techniques.

Today, the idea of using pigeons to guide missiles may seem far-fetched, but it serves as an interesting example of the ways in which scientists and researchers have attempted to harness the abilities of animals for military purposes throughout history.
