In 2008, I was in Palm Beach for a conference.


The day after I had arrived, I was in for a walk to the beach, and along the walk, a got really hungry.

I decided to go Wendy’s — but when I got there, I decided to walk some more and grab a bite a little further down the road.


Twenty minutes later, a man entered the very Wendy’s I had planned to go to, with a gun. And opened fire. Several people were killed, and many more severely wounded.


I’m still alive.

The capture of brave Russian officer Rosinski This is a shocking image and I apologize in advance for sharing it, but here’s one that truly got to me… in Belarus, 1918, after WWI had already ended, the brave Russian officer Rosinski was captured by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks tortured the captain, likely to get information out of the man, which he bravely refused to give. After that, they simply continued with the torture out of some sick sense of innate cruelty. He was ‘the enemy’ and he was at their mercy, so they brutally murdered their captive. The brave captain was emasculated. And anally impaled on a tree branch. All this while still alive. Alfred Savoir, the man who published the picture and was an eye witness to the death of the brave military officer, described "M. The bodies of civilians executed by the German army hang in the Pancevo city cemetery The woman, whose body is hanging in the middle of the group, owned a restaurant under which the Germans found a tunnel that led to the cemetery and was the suspected escape route for the sniper. On the back of the photograph, there is a caption in German handwriting: " The woman was the owner of the restaurant from which a secret passage [660 feet] long led to a cemetery, it passed under the street and ended in a chapel.  Then the German soldiers were shot at night from the cemetery. Following his execution at Smithfield in London on 23 August 1305, William Wallace's severed head was placed on a spike on Drawbridge Gate on London Bridge.  Wallace's head was the first recorded head ever to be displayed on the bridge and it launched a gruesome tradition that lasted over 350 years.  From 1305 until the second half of the 17th century the heads of traitors were dipped in tar for preservation and then displayed on the bridge in sight of passers-by, whether by land or water. A man known as the Keeper of the Heads was in charge of their security.  Once a head had served its purpose it was probably thrown into the River Thames. Dahteste (circa 1860–1955) was a Chokonen Apache woman warrior. Dahteste was a famous Apache woman warrior, and it was widely known that she could out-ride, out-shoot, out-hunt, out-run, and out-fight her peers, both male and female.  She took part in battles and raiding parties alongside her husband and best friend Lozen, another Apache woman warrior.  She and Lozen were good friends with Geronimo, and he chose her to be his official translator in his talks with the US Cavalry.  After negotiating treaties with the US government, she was imprisoned in Alabama and Florida, and later, Fort Sill, surviving both tuberculosis and pneumonia.  19 years later, she was released and lived out the rest of her life on the Mescalero Apache reservation.
