TOMAHAWK JOE' real name Kazan Champion, was an American, graduated with a BSc, served in Canadian Mounties and was sheriff at El Paso.

On ThisDay 16 February 1938, unknown model poses with local gunslinging Boat Harbour resident 'Tomahawk Joe' at his beachside shack. 


Just one of the many shacks located in the Sydney shanty town "paradise", where residents have no electricity or running water, no mail and no insurance.

BOAT HARBOUR is a small beach located on the south-eastern side of the Kurnell Peninsula in Sydney. The tight-knit community of beachside shacks, built on Sydney’s only privately owned beach (owned by the Holt family since 1860) has existed "off the books" since it first emerged next to the towering sand dunes of the Kurnell Peninsula, during the Depression.

 At it’s height there were as many as 200 homes there — Since then it has dwindled to around 25 basic cabins that have passed from one generation to the next, picking up a few mod cons such as solar panels along the way.

'TOMAHAWK JOE' real name Kazan Champion, was an American, graduated with a BSc, served in Canadian Mounties and was sheriff at El Paso. He was 2m tall and sought after for minor roles in silent movies.

 Came to Australia in 1914, living with indigenous people in Queensland for6 years, moved to Sydney, then Newcastle where he lived in Jesmond. He performed at carnivals with knives, tomahawks and guns. He wore a gun belt with bullets and a Webley revolver.

The capture of brave Russian officer Rosinski This is a shocking image and I apologize in advance for sharing it, but here’s one that truly got to me… in Belarus, 1918, after WWI had already ended, the brave Russian officer Rosinski was captured by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks tortured the captain, likely to get information out of the man, which he bravely refused to give. After that, they simply continued with the torture out of some sick sense of innate cruelty. He was ‘the enemy’ and he was at their mercy, so they brutally murdered their captive. The brave captain was emasculated. And anally impaled on a tree branch. All this while still alive. The terror of the execution wheel The  breaking wheel  or  execution wheel , also known as the  Wheel of Catherine  or simply the  Wheel , was a torture method used for public execution primarily in Europe from antiquity through the Middle Ages into the early modern period by breaking the bones of a criminal or bludgeoning them to death. 80 years ago today is when World War II: Rostov-on-Don, Russia is liberated. Rostov-on-Don  is a port city and the administrative centre of Rostov Oblast and the Southern Federal District of Russia. It lies in the southeastern part of the East European Plain on the Don River, 32 kilometers (20 mi) from the Sea of Azov, directly north of the North Caucasus.  The southwestern suburbs of the city lie above the Don river delta. Rostov-on-Don has a population of over one million people, and is an important cultural centre of Southern Russia. During World War I Rostov-on-Don was briefly occupied by the Germans and Austrians, during 1918. During the Russian Civil War, the Whites and the Reds contested Rostov-on-Don, then the most heavily industrialized city of South Russia. The Battle of Visby (1361) was a violent Medieval battle that took place near the town of Visby (Island of Gotland), fought between the inhabitants of Gotland and the Danes, with the latter emerging victorious. The battle left a lasting archaeological legacy; masses of slaughtered soldiers and citizens lay scattered across what was once a blood battlefield.  Slashed and broken bones, skeletons still in their chainmail and armor, and smashed skulls, some still with spears and knives protruding out of them. @world history and facts Photo author unknown. Bluetooth technology was named after a Viking king by the name of Harald Bluetooth who died over 1,000 years ago–world history and facts He unified factions of Denmark with those in Norway much like how technology we use today unifies different electronic devices. The Bluetooth logo consists of his initials, (Hagall) (ᚼ) and (Bjarkan) (ᛒ). As for how he got his nickname in the first place   The name "Bluetooth" was proposed in 1997 by Jim Kardach of Intel, one of the founders of the Bluetooth SIG.  The name was inspired by a conversation with Sven Mattisson who related Scandinavian history through tales from Frans G.    Nanking Massacre and raped victim. The Nanking Massacre was a horrific event in 1937 where the Japanese army committed mass killings and widespread rape in Nanking, China. Tens of thousands of civilians and prisoners of war were murdered and over 20,000 women were raped. This atrocity is considered one of the worst of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The impact of the Nanking Massacre has been lasting, with deep anger and resentment towards Japan still present today. Despite repeated calls for an apology, Japan has been slow to officially recognize the extent of the horrors committed. In recent years, there have been efforts to raise awareness and preserve the memory of the victims. The Nanking Massacre has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, and films, and is widely considered a dark moment in Chinese history. Hannah Halley - for infanticide.  Hannah Halley like so many young women at the time found herself in a seemingly impossible situation.  She murdered her new born infant because she could not keep her job and nurse a baby and without the job she could not afford to support the child.   Thirty one year old Hannah worked at the Darley cotton mill in Derbyshire and gave birth to the baby on Tuesday, the 14th of August 1821 at her lodgings in Brook Street, Derby. Earlier that day her landlady and a friend of the landlady had noticed that Hannah looked very unwell and she agreed that she felt ill.  She went up to her room where she gave birth a little later and the two women heard the cries of a new born baby and went up to offer assistance.   When they entered the room Hannah denied that she had given birth and was seen putting a jug under the bed which she had previously been trying to conceal under her clothes.   Hannah continued with the denial so one of the women threatened to get the
